Getting Your First 1,000 Followers as a Property Agent
Why follower count matters less than local relevance, and a realistic path to an audience that could actually buy from you.
The follower number is the most over-weighted metric in agent marketing. Ten thousand followers across India produce fewer enquiries than eight hundred in the two sectors you actually work.
That said, you need a base. Here is how to build one honestly.
Start with the people who already know you
Before any content strategy: message every contact in your phone individually and tell them what you are doing and where. Not a broadcast — an actual message.
Most agents skip this because it feels awkward. It produces the first two hundred followers, and they are the ones most likely to refer you.
Post for one locality, not for the algorithm
Content about a specific sector reaches fewer people and the right people. "3 things to know before buying in Sector 82" will get a fraction of the views of "5 home buying tips", and will produce more enquiries.
The narrower the content, the more likely the viewer is someone you can actually help.
Comment where your buyers are
Fifteen minutes a day, leaving genuinely useful comments on:
- Local community pages and RWA accounts
- Local business accounts — restaurants, gyms, schools
- Other agents' posts, where the comment adds something
Not "great post 🔥". An actual observation. People click through to profiles that said something interesting.
Collaborate locally
Interior designers, packers and movers, home loan advisors, local business owners. A joint post or a shared story reaches their audience, which is the same geography as yours and has no overlap with your followers.
This is the fastest legitimate growth available to an agent, and it costs nothing but a conversation.
Post consistently for ninety days
Three or four posts a week, for three months, before judging anything. Most agents quit at week five, which is roughly the point where an account starts to gather momentum.
What actually moves the number
In rough order of effect for a local account:
- A reel that gets shared into local WhatsApp groups
- A collaboration with a local business
- Consistency over months
- Genuinely useful locality content
- Everything else
What does not
- Follow-for-follow
- Engagement pods
- Buying followers
- Posting at "optimal times" without good content
- Twenty hashtags
The number that actually matters
Track enquiries per month from social, not followers. Some agents get consistent enquiries at 600 followers. Some get none at 20,000. The difference is whether the audience is local and whether the content gives them a reason to message.

How many followers does an agent need?
Far fewer than most assume. A thousand local followers in the areas you sell is worth more than fifty thousand scattered nationally. Judge by enquiries, not by count.
Should I buy followers?
No. Bought followers never enquire, they wreck your engagement rate so the platform shows you to fewer real people, and they are obvious to any client who looks.
