Writing an Instagram Bio That Turns Visitors Into Enquiries
The name field, the 150 characters and the link — how each should be set up so a profile visit becomes a message.
A profile visit is a decision point. Someone watched a reel, tapped your name, and is now deciding whether to message you. The bio has about four seconds to make that easy.
The name field is search, not decoration
Most agents put only their name here. That is a wasted field.
Instagram search matches on the name field. "Priya Sharma" is found by people who already know her. "Priya · Zirakpur Property" is found by everyone searching for property in Zirakpur.
Format: Your Name · City Property or Your Name | Real Estate City.
The 150 characters
Four lines, in this order:
1. Who you help and where.
Helping families buy in Mohali & Zirakpur
2. Proof.
60+ homes sold · RERA PB-1234
3. What they get.
Honest pricing, no time wasting
4. An instruction.
DM your budget ↓
Skip: "Dream homes", "Your trusted partner", inspirational quotes, and lists of emoji. They occupy the space that proof should be in.
The link
One link, to a page that does two things: shows your current properties and captures an enquiry.
Not to a link menu — every extra tap loses people, and the menu adds nothing a good profile page does not already do.
If you must run a campaign, swap the link to that specific property while it runs and change it back after.
The profile photo
Your face. Clear, well lit, shoulders up, plain background. Not a logo, not a property, not you standing at a distance in front of a building.
Property is a trust purchase, and a face is the fastest trust signal available. This is the single highest-impact change most agent profiles can make.
Category and contact buttons
Switch to a professional account and set the category to Real Estate Agent. Add the call and WhatsApp buttons — they turn interest into contact without the person having to type anything.
A meaningful share of enquiries come through the WhatsApp button rather than DMs, and agents who have not enabled it never see them.
The pinned posts
Three pins, chosen deliberately:
- Your best-performing reel — proof you are worth following
- An explainer that shows you know the market
- A current listing or a "what I do" post
These are the first three things a visitor sees. Most agents leave them to chance.
The test
Show your profile to someone who does not know you for four seconds, then ask: what does this person do, where, and what should I do next? If they cannot answer all three, the bio needs work — not more followers.

What should be in the name field?
Your name plus what you do and where — 'Priya · Zirakpur Property'. The name field is searchable inside Instagram, so it determines whether you appear when someone searches your city and 'property'.
Where should the bio link go?
To a page that shows properties and captures enquiries. A link menu adds a step, and every step loses people.
