What Happens to Your Video After the MLS Syndicates It
Your listing goes to a dozen sites automatically. Most of them treat your video very differently from how you uploaded it.
You upload once and your listing appears in a dozen places. What arrives at the other end is not what you sent — different aspect ratios, stripped audio, a different first photo, sometimes no video at all. Knowing what survives the pipe changes what you produce.
What syndication actually does
Syndication feeds carry structured data and media references, not your carefully arranged upload. Each destination re-renders what it receives according to its own rules.
Photo order is preserved more reliably than anything else, which is why the first photo carries so much weight. It becomes the card image nearly everywhere.
Video is handled inconsistently. Some destinations host it, some link out, some show it only in a secondary tab, and some ignore an unbranded video requirement by dropping it entirely.
Branded video is the usual sticking point. Many portals accept only unbranded media in the primary slot, so a video with your name in the last three seconds may be rejected without notification.
What survives and what does not
That is the argument for producing two exports: an unbranded cut for the MLS and syndication, and a branded cut for your own channels where branding is the point.
Audio is unreliable. Assume autoplay is muted and the viewer may never hear the voiceover, which is another reason on-screen text carries the essential facts.
Aspect ratio gets cropped to the destination's player. A vertical listing video frequently ends up pillarboxed or centre-cropped on a desktop portal.
Check your own listing on the three destinations that matter most in your market, on a phone, a day after it goes live. Almost no agent does this and it takes four minutes.
Producing for the pipe
If the video is missing, the cause is usually a branding rule, a file format, or a URL the feed could not resolve. Those are the three to check before contacting support.
Keep the hosted original somewhere you control. Portals change policies and delete media, and a listing archive that depends on a portal is not an archive.
The most durable version of your work is on your own site and your own channel, with the portals as distribution. Building the reverse dependency is how agents lose a body of work in a policy change.

Why is my video not showing on Zillow?
The usual causes are a branding rule that rejected it, an unsupported format, or a media URL the syndication feed could not resolve. Check those before contacting support, in that order.
Should I make branded and unbranded versions?
Yes. Unbranded for the MLS and syndication, branded for your own channels. It is one extra export and it prevents the most common rejection.
Does a video actually help a listing on the portals?
It helps engagement on the listing page, which is what you can control. Treat the portal as distribution and your own channels as where the video earns its keep.
