Visual Consistency: Why Your Posts Should Look Like They Came From One Person

Three fonts, two colours and one layout — the minimum system that makes an agent's content recognisable in a feed.

Scroll an agent's grid and you will usually see nine different designs: one with a script font, one with a gradient, one with a stock photo, one with the logo in a different corner. Each was fine on its own. Together they look like nine different businesses.

What consistency does

It does not make people like your content more. It makes them recognise it faster.

A viewer who has seen your posts four times without registering who you are has given you nothing. A viewer who recognises the layout before reading the words has started to build a memory of you, which is the entire mechanism by which local marketing works.

The five decisions

Make these once.

1. Two colours. One dark, one accent. That is it. Not a palette of six.

2. Two fonts. One for headlines, one for body. Both readable at phone size. Skip the script font — it fails at small sizes and it dates.

3. One text position. Bottom-left, or top-centre. Pick one and never move it.

4. One logo placement. Small, one corner, the same corner every time. Never across the middle of a property photo.

5. One photo treatment. Either you brighten and straighten everything, or you do not. Consistency here matters more than which choice you make.

The three layouts you actually need

Property post. Photo, price, configuration, locality, your name small at the bottom.

Text post. Solid background in your dark colour, headline in your accent, body text, your name.

Reel end frame. Your face or your logo, your name, your area, and one instruction.

Three templates. Build them once. Every post for the next two years uses one of them.

What breaks it

  • Using whatever font the editing app suggested that day
  • Different logo sizes and positions
  • Some posts branded, some not
  • Adopting a trend that does not fit — a design style that appeared this month and will look dated by next year
  • Redesigning every six months

That last one is the most common. Agents get bored of their own design long before their audience has registered it. Boredom with your own branding is a sign it is finally working.

The grid test

Open your profile and look at the nine most recent posts as a grid, at arm's length.

Can you tell they belong together? Not "are they attractive" — do they cohere? If they look like nine unrelated posts, you have a system problem, not a design problem.

Where the effort actually belongs

Consistency is cheap. It is five decisions and three templates.

The content itself — the honesty, the local specificity, the useful information — is where the work is. Agents who spend six weeks on a brand identity and then post generic tips have optimised the wrong half.

Get the five decisions done in an afternoon, then never think about it again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a designer?

No. You need to make five decisions once — two colours, two fonts, one text position, one logo placement, one photo treatment — and then never change them. The decisions matter; the designer does not.

Does consistency really affect enquiries?

Indirectly. It affects recognition, and recognition is what turns the fourth time someone sees you into the moment they remember your name. Nobody messages an agent they cannot place.
